David Campell, MD

During my 35 years as a board-certified emergency physician in a busy regional trauma center, I grew curious about why some people recover fully after a physical trauma while others develop lasting psychological effects. That question led me into a series of in-depth post-graduate trainings on how childhood and adult trauma shape the body and mind, and on the most effective methods of treatment.

Since leaving emergency medicine in 2015, I have devoted my practice to supporting people living with the long-term psychological and emotional impact of trauma.

I have had the privilege of in-person learning directly from leaders in the field of trauma therapy including:

  • Richard Schwartz (founder of Internal Family Systems, author of No Bad Parts),
  • Bessel Van der Kolk (researcher, speaker, and author of Body Keeps the Score),
  • Peter Levine (founder of Somatic Experiencing, author of Waking the Tiger),
  • Janina Fisher (Trauma expert, speaker and author of Healing the Fragmented Selves of Trauma Survivors)
  • Pat Ogden (founder of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and author of Trauma and the Body)

I have also assisted in training programs for the Internal Family System Institute, Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute and the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute, teaching trauma treatment skills to other psychotherapists.

SERVICES OFFERED

Today, I live in Marin County, California and offer trauma-focused psychotherapy via telehealth to adults who suffer from the psychological, emotional impact of childhood or adult trauma.

I also am available to help those with chronic illness who want to explore whether their symptoms may be linked to mind-body interactions related to past trauma, and how the IFS model can help.

[See "Trauma & Health" tab for more info]

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy is gaining popularity for the treatment of PTSD, depression, and to augment personal growth. I do not prescribe or administer ketamine, but I do provide Integration Psychotherapy to enhance and support the effects of that medicine before and after the ketamine session.
