Treatment Approach

Summary
The experience of trauma may lie in the past, but its effects are often felt in the present. That’s why my approach to therapy begins in the present. You don’t need to report details of your trauma history to start healing. The patterns, emotions, and body sensations connected to what brings you to therapy usually reveal what needs attention.
Therapy usually begins with a current concern in your daily life. From there, I help you translate the issue into parts language so you can see how different parts are trying to protect you, even when their strategies create stress or unwanted outcomes. Many people find that this first step alone brings more clarity and compassion for why they behave the way they do, particularly under stress. Healing the wounded parts of you becomes possible once there is a trusting relationship with the protective parts that have been working so hard to keep difficult feelings out of awareness.
Whether your trauma comes from a single event or prolonged experience, my training in IFS and somatic therapies, along with my former career as an emergency physician, uniquely qualifies me to help you with the many psychological and emotional effects of what you hvae endured.
