Single Event / Shock Trauma
Online Treatment Available
Single Event Trauma (also called "Shock Trauma") happens as a result of a life-threatening event that is limited in time. Examples include car or bike accidents, physical or sexual assaults, falls, natural disasters, and mass casualty events.
More than half of people in the U.S. will go through at least one of these events in their lifetime. It can activate the survival response of fight, flight, freeze or submit and lead to symptoms of PTSD. Most persons will recover within a month without treatment. But for about 10% of survivors, symptoms will last much longer—sometimes for years—if left untreated.
