Single Event / Shock Trauma

Single Event / Shock Trauma

The term, “Single Event Trauma” (sometimes called “Shock Trauma”) refers to a life-threatening event, which is limited in time – such as a car/bike/motorcycle accident, a fall, an assault, a mass casualty, or natural disaster. It is estimated that over half of the U.S. population will experience at least one such traumatic event in their lifetime. Most people will recover within a few days up to a couple months. However, about 10% - 20% of people who have experienced a single traumatic event will continue to have symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress for many months and possibly years afterwards.

Some people with Post Traumatic Stress will get better with the passage of time, but the most efficient way to recover is to engage in a treatment method that is specifically designed to treat the effects of trauma.
